Art on the Seam trailer

Below is the official teaser trailer for the upcoming documentary titled "Art on the Seam".  The film was directed and produced by a good friend of mine David Freid who, in May of 2012, invited me to be part of this film as I painted a mural on the wall in Palestine.  The mural was from one of David's photographs of a Jordanian Bedouin and after much interest by the public to hear the story of David and I, I actually did my keynote at TEDx earlier in October about this project.

The film will be released soon (as well as the TEDx Goteborg keynote).  Check back here soon for details on the release of both.  This is an extremely important project and film as it helps raise awareness to the power of art in this region and raises a great discussion about this highly controversial canvas wall.

In Studio

I have been working full time in the studio which has been somewhat of a blessing since it seems the rain is not stopping anytime soon.  Here are some preview shots of my work for my upcoming solo exhibition at a gallery in gothenburg on September 22nd.  More info soon.

My mural in Stockholm

I had the pleasure to put up a large mural in Stockholm following my solo exhibition at The Scarlett Gallery (photos of the opening coming soon).
Here is a photo of me standing next to my mural along with a few other show :)
The mural would not be possible without the good people at Kollektivet Livet

Shai Dahan wheatpastes Sweden

Someone I met here took me to an abandoned Swedish Army Training base. It has not been used in many years and occasionally now is used by locals for paintball gun fun. I didn't know what to expect when I was going there. all I knew was that it was made of 8 abandoned buildings and that it is a 25 minute hike through the forrest (no car roads lead up to it. you just either know its there or not and from what I was told, not many people know it is there).
Anyway, in preparation, I did a few wheatpastes. I did a few birdguns to present the fact this place was used as an army base and that it was build in the middle of a forrest. My larger piece ended up being a paintballgun-bird rendition. The location I found for it once I arrived was perfect. Across from a burned out bus in the center of this entire facility a small concrete building with a red/black flag on it. I assume this was used either during the army training or more recently, by the paintball players. I found it perfect. Enjoy.

Madrid Street Ad Takeover 2011

Once again, I was invited by the fantastic PublicAdCampaign Family to join them in yet another public art project. In the past, I helped in both the New York Street Ad Takeover as well as the Canda Street Ad Takeover in Toronto (as recently as Jan. 2011) by providing artwork to be installed throughout the city streets.

Well, this time I was able to join in helping bring art to public space in Madrid. I was asked (along with over 100 other artists, poets, writers and other creatives) to send in text which was then printed on paper and used to replace advertising throughout Madrid.

On March 30th, 2011, a total of 106 posters went into bus kiosks and street level advertising spaces to bring messages, stories, jokes and thought provoking messages to replace the day to day advertising which the people of Madrid have to endure on their way to work daily.

Below are a few snap shots of the project and you can see it in it's entirety here:

Street Ad Takeover in Toronto

This past August (2010), I was invited once again for another Street Advertising Takeover. Although the last time I took part in this project it was in New York City, this time I was invited to take part in a street ad takeover on the streets of Toronto Canada. the artwork was installed into phonebooth kiosks along with 100 other artists. I just got the photo of my work as it was installed.

Pushing Along

In the words of "A Tribe Called Quest", I have been "Pushing Along" in preparation of my solo show in May. Things are coming along well. The studio is messy and the artwork is finally showing what all the hard work is for. They are coming together really nice. I don't want to show much of the completed work. I prefer to drop hints and process shots instead.
Here are some photos in the studio as of this week.
Enjoy
